Rule 301 — Definitions for purposes of rules 302 to 315.
The rule defines four expressions for rules 302 to 315. "Approving authority" means the Principal Chief Commissioner or Chief Commissioner or Principal Commissioner or Commissioner. "Beneficiary" means a person referred to in paragraph 3(b) of Part B of Schedule XI to the Act for whom provision of annuity is made. "Fund" means a superannuation fund or a part of a superannuation fund, which includes a fund, by whatever name called, established or constituted with a sole purpose of making payment of pension or family pension by the employer to his employees. "Trust" means the trust under which the superannuation fund is established, and "trustee" means a trustee of that trust.
Rules 302 to 315 govern the approval and running of superannuation funds and use the same four terms throughout. Defining them once fixes who may approve, who counts as a beneficiary, what a fund is for this purpose, and who the trustees answerable under those rules are.
The definition of fund is wider than the label an employer uses: it takes in a fund by whatever name called, and a part of a superannuation fund as well as the whole, provided the sole purpose is payment of pension or family pension by the employer to his employees. The approving authority is any one of four ranks, so approval is not confined to a single office. These meanings run only through rules 302 to 315; the entitlement itself lives in Schedule XI.
You do not meet this rule on its own. It works through rules 302 to 315, which is where an employer or trustee deals with approval, contributions and payments out of a superannuation fund.
