Extension of time limit for filing ITR-V forms for A.Ys. 2010-11 and 2011-12
Notification No. 01/2012 was published on 23 October 2012. Its subject is Extension of time limit for filing ITR-V forms for A.Ys. 2010-11 and 2011-12.
This is an extension of time. It moves a date that the Act or the Rules otherwise fix, and it does so only for the compliance and the period it names — not for anything else that happens to fall due at the same time.
The Director General of Income Tax (Systems), in exercise of powers under clause (ii) of Para 14 read with clause (7) of Para 4 of the Centralized Processing of Returns Scheme, 2011 notified by S.O. 16(E) dated 4 January 2012, extends the time limit for filing Form ITR-V in respect of income-tax returns filed electronically without a digital signature certificate. The extension covers returns for assessment year 2010-11 filed during financial year 2011-12 and returns for assessment year 2011-12 filed on or after 1 April 2011. Such ITR-V forms may now be filed up to 31 December 2012 or within 120 days from the date of uploading the electronic return data, whichever is later.
The direction is issued to mitigate the hardship and grievance of taxpayers who were prevented by reasonable causes from filing the ITR-V in time.
