In exercise of power conferred in clause (ii) of sub-section (1) of section 35 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, the Central Government makes the following correction to the name of the organisation at S. No. 3 of page 2 of the Notification No. 11526 dated 28th September, 2000 [published at (2000) 163 CTR (St) 27]

This Corrigendum contains amendment to Income-tax Act, 1961, carried out on 28th November, 2000 not reproduced here as it is already contained in the body of the act itself.

What a notification is. A notification is made under a power the Act itself gives, and within that power it is law — unlike a circular, which only binds the department. Its reach is the reach of the enabling provision and no wider, and the date it carries decides from when it works.
