COST INFLATION INDEX : FINANCIAL YEAR 2005-06
NOTIFICATION NO. 189/2005, DATED 12-8-2005

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (v) of the Explanation to section 48 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (43 of 1961), the Central Government, having regard to seventy-five per cent. of the average rise in the Consumer Price Index for the Financial Year commencing from the 1st day of April, 2004 and ending on the 31st day of March 2005 for the urban non-manual employees, hereby specifies the Cost Inflation Index for the Financial Year commencing from the 1st day of April, 2005 and ending on the 31st day of March, 2006 and for that purpose further makes the following amendment in the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue), Central Board of Direct Taxes number S.O. 709(E), dated the 20th August, 1998, namely :—

In the said notification, in the Table, after serial number 24 and the entries relating thereto, the following serial number and the entries relating thereto shall be inserted, namely :—

"25 2005-2006 497.".
