Statement to furnish information on transaction of crypt-asset under section 509
Form 167 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026 is new. The department’s concordance shows no form of the 1961 regime behind it. It is a periodic statement. It reports what happened in a period whether or not anything is owed at the end of it. The assessee signs and files this himself.

Rules of the 2026 Rules that work the same section. rule 242 (Obligation for reporting transaction of crypto-asset under section 509), rule 243 (Reporting requirements for transaction of crypto-asset under section), rule 244 (Due diligence procedures under section 509). This is our own matching — we have paired the section the form names with the rules whose headings name that same section. The department has not said that any of these rules prescribes this form.
This form is new. The department’s concordance leaves the 1961 column empty for it, which means there is no earlier form it replaces and no older practice to read across from. Its number is Form 167, and the department describes it as: “Statement to furnish information on transaction of crypt-asset under section 509”.
You meet it as a recurring obligation with a date attached, generally unconnected to any tax being payable. Because nothing is owed, it is the one that gets forgotten, and the penalty for not filing runs by the day.
